Coffee at a bookstore

My baby and I went to Border's to meet up with a friend and her baby. This is what I wore.

White nursing tank - Target
Green T - Wet Seal
Cardigan - Forever21
Scarf - Old Navy
Belt - Kohl's
Jeans - Calvin Klein
Shoes - Skechers
Bag - Old Navy

Cardigan sweaters are really helpful for discreet nursing, and so are scarves! I just tossed the tail of the scarf over my baby for a second, and I don't think I flashed anyone. Yay for not exposing myself!

I realize the bag doesn't necessarily go with the outfit (the scarf kinda throws it off, yes?) but it's what I carried.

I wore white socks with these shoes because it was really cold out and I didn't want frozen toes. Maybe some trouser socks would have been a better choice, if I had them.

Diaper bags are ugly

During a 90-minute solo outing this weekend, I popped into Kohl's to look at their handbags on sale. I've been meaning to pick up a few totes/laptop cases/ giant purses to use in place of a traditional diaper bag.

Have you seen diaper bags? They are so ugly. I figure I may as well get something that looks a little better, since I'll be carrying it for a few years and all.

Pre-baby, I rarely carried purses. I typically had a thin wallet in my back pocket and put my phone and keys in my front pocket or coat. Not exactly stylish, what with the pocket bulges and all, but I do like to travel light and it was nice to have my hands free.

When my baby and I venture out into the world, we're usually gone for no more than a few hours. I can pack some wipes, a few diapers, a changing pad, a spare outfit, and a burp cloth and be good to go. As he gets older, I know we'll need snacks and toys but they shouldn't take up too much space.

I bought this diaper bag on eBay. It's from Lands' End and it's quite large. I use this bag when we need to cart around a lot of stuff (not often).

This diaper bag was my hospital freebie. It's a good size for an average day out but it's not that attractive. Plus, it has a baby formula logo on it. Hawt.

I bought this bag at Kohl's for $22 (marked down from $55). It's actually intended to be a laptop bag and has a removable case inside. What do you think? When I went shopping today, I wanted to get a bag in an actual color instead of some neutral. I have enough neutral bags. Time to have some fun already!

I'm also thinking of getting a hobo bag or two from Old Navy. I imagine I'll be collecting a variety of big bags in the near future!

I wore this to brunch

Cardigan: Forever21
Button-down shirt: Sears
Gray nursing tank: Target
Reversible belt: Relic brand (Kohl's) the brown side
Jeans: Old Navy Diva bootleg dark wash
Shoes: Brown Skechers
(Diaper) bag: Relic, Kohl's

The sleeves of the cardigan are kinda 80s bridesmaid, but whatever.

Vegas safari?

I kind of feel like this outfit has a "Vegas safari" sort of appeal. My dad once called these flats "Las Vegas grandma" shoes. The jacket paired with black and the pseudo-animal print bag makes me sort of think safari in a bizarre way. So yeah.

This outfit needs a scarf or a necklace or something up top. Other than that, I'm fairly happy with it. This is a pretty darn complete outfit for my standards.

So I accidentally ended up with two jackets just like this. I thought my Forever21 order didn't go through (I even called and they said it hadn't) and so I ordered this jacket from Wet Seal, since I wanted it so badly.

Well, the F21 order DID go through after all and now I have two identical jackets. I can either return one for store credit (I'd get about $14 at F21) or I was thinking about dying one a shade of brown.

The jacket fits a little small on me, so I'm wondering if it would be better to just keep one and return the other. Your thoughts?

Black 3/4 length shirt - Weathervane (this store closed several years ago -- so this is an OLD shirt!)
Khaki jacket - Forever21
Reversible belt - Relic, Kohl's (one side is smooth brown "leather" and the reverse is a brushed suede sort of feel with a pattern stitched on top)
Old Navy Diva bootleg medium wash jeans
Sparkly flats- Xhilleration from Target several years ago
Bag - Relic, Kohl's. I'm planning on using this as a diaper bag.

Opinions please! Should I keep or return this shirt?

I bought this wrap shirt from H&M last weekend. I still don't know how I feel about the color or the style. I'll probably wear it with a white or black tank underneath, though I tried it on with a green one today. I don't think the green is quite right for this top. Your thoughts?

Does this look work? And what about the shoes with it?

So yeah, I just don't know about the shirt. I can't decide if it looks good or not, and I'd really like your opinions. Keep or return? And other ideas for what to pair with it? Thanks so much!

Variations on a plaid halter dress

I bought this plaid halter dress last summer from Target to wear to an informal beach wedding. I wore it with flip flops (hi, we were on a beach), and a long-sleeved white cardigan for indoors in the cool AC.

At the time of the wedding, I was seven weeks pregnant. Because of that, I didn't get much use out of the dress that summer. In fact, I think the wedding was the only time I've worn it so far.

Today, I pulled it out of storage and paired it with everything I could think of to see what works and what doesn't.

Below is the dress alone with my new jacket from Wet Seal.

This is with my new Old Navy polo and my new jacket from Wet Seal. I don't like the polo with the jacket (the neckline looks weird, does it not?). But, I do like the plain polo with the dress. I don't have a pic of that though.

Just your everyday button-down white shirt. I paired it with a belt that came with a pair of capri pants I bought last summer. Probably not the best belt for this outfit, but I don't own many and I wanted to see how it would look belted period.
I'm wearing a light pink polo over the dress with a pink sweater atop that. The polo is too sheer to wear over the dress as-is. I didn't think about trying the polo under the dress first. I think I'd prefer my blue polo under this sweater.
This is the cardigan I wore with the dress at the wedding, but I didn't belt it.

This is with my new wrap shirt. I'm not sure if I want to keep it or return it. In another post, I'll show the shirt with other combos. I think if I wore the wrap with this dress, I'd need a tank under it.

Looking at these photos, I really see how important accessories can be to pull a look together. With the right belt, scarf, or shoe, it can take a look from being ok to being really great. What do you think of these combos? Do you have other suggestions for what I can pair with this dress? What kind of shoes would work well?

When my blue jacket and grey sweater arrive in the mail next week, I'll try them with the dress.

Ug, polyester

I bought this shirt last summer right after college to wear to work. I paired it with khaki dress pants and I thought I looked ok.

I wore it again today for like an hour and then changed into a grey cotton t-shirt. I don't like this top anymore. For one thing, it's polyester and that's not a comfy fabric. I don't really like the pattern anymore, either. I don't know if you can see the detail, but it's chains that criss-cross. They have little flecks of gold in them.

I do like the brown color and the fit seems to be ok.

Maybe it's time to donate the top.

I'm wearing my other pair of Old Navy Diva bootlegs. This one is the dark wash. I like em.

My shoes came in the mail yesterday and I'm pleased with them. They're comfortable, and they're darker than they looked in the picture online. This is a good thing! They looked sort of red-brown in the pic.

Shirt: Macy's, dunno brand
Jeans: Old Navy Diva boot leg
Shoes: Skechers Step Up, brown
